Baby Mice in High Definition
Oh man, what a week. Here is the condensed version:
Sunday
We were watching TV when SC noticed Sydney playing with a very real looking mouse toy. Then we realized it was not a mouse toy, but in fact, a real mouse. The mouse looked stunned so I easily scooped it up in a tupperware container and released it outside. It looked so cute and I felt kind of bad for it.

In the middle of the night, we woke up to Sydney grunting and batting around another mouse. I got out of bed to see where this mouse was. Sydney was swatting at this base of her mechanical toy. I was in disbelief that the mouse was under there since there is only like a centimeter of space beneath it. I decided to humor her and lifted the base and behold, there was the mouse. Of course this surprised me and I accidently dropped the base onto the mouse, crushing it. Ooops. I really did feel sad about this.
Where was SC in all this? You can ask her about that, put apparently I have to be the butch in the relationship and be the mouse hunter.
Monday
I emailed the management company in the morning to tell them about the mice. The whole thing seemed a bit odd considering I hadn't seen one in all my years living in the building.
In the evening Sydney found THREE more mice friends. One we captured and released outside. The second I accidently flattened underneath a floor lamp. And then a third that got away.
Where were these buggers coming from? I pulled out the stove to look behind the dishwasher and noticed some mouse droppings. Then I pulled everything out from under the kitchen sink and noticed a crap load (no pun intended) of mouse droppings. Now I was sure we had SERIOUS problem. Plus I wasn't getting any sleep and SC was insisting on us sleeping with the light on in the kitchen.
Tuesday
I emailed the management company again and told them about the severity of the problem. They sent over someone during the day to plug up all the holes under the sink and around the pipes. They also laid out some sticky traps around the dishwasher.
That night, another mouse friend came out to play. This time, however, Sydney swatted it over near our bed, which created extra freaking out for SC. We spent about an hour, moving furniture and other things around, trying to get at the mouse. Finally, Sydney chased it into the corner and it hid under the floor lamp, which I used to crush the mouse. "Die, die, die!" As you can see, I had reached the point where I no longer felt any sympathy for the mice.
Wednesday
Jerry the pest man came over in the morning. He set up poison baits in the kitchen and found that we caught another mouse overnight on a sticky trap. He told me that the litte mice were actually baby mice which explains why they had no fear and happily ventured out, right under Sydney's nose. Stupid babies.
That night one more mouse came out, and Sydney grabbed it in her mouth and showed it to us. Like the very first mouse that we found, this one seemed stunned. So I easily captured this one. SC wanted me to throw it out the window. That seemed ultra cruel and I am not THAT cruel even though I seem like I am. Anyhow, I was nice enough to walk downstairs and release it into the 17 degree outdoors.
SC was having trouble sleeping because she was afraid of the little mice babies jumping into our bed. So, yet again, it was a late night.
Thursday
There are no more mice it seems, although Sydney keeps going into the kitchen and staring at the dishwasher.
Friday
I'm happy to report that there were no mice. Looks like maybe we have annihilated the liter of mice babies.
Saturday
The cable man comes to hook up our HD cable box. Hooray! After he leaves, we flip through the channels and I can't figure out why we get ESPN2 HD, NESN HD, all the local HDs, but NO ESPN HD. Wtf?! So, I call Comcast and they explain to me that I we need the premium package for an extra $11.37/month to get ESPN HD. Booo... so they have totally teased us with these other HD channels so we agree to upgrade to the next level. Dang. But now we have like all 200 channels. Guess we can just sit at home and watch TV all day now!
