Poor Fishies
I got up super early today for the airport just to end up being delayed a good amount of time... most of it was spent sitting inside the airplane at the gate. Fun times. I guess in the end we were only an hour and a half delayed, so I can't complain too much.
From the airport, my parents took me to Chinatown in Philadelphia where we went to Sang Kee for their famous roasted duck wonton noodle soup. Mmmmmm... delicious.
After lunch we went out in search for some pressed duck. My parents kept trying to order a pressed peking duck from this take out place, but there were too many communication barriers. One of the cooks kept pointing at my dad and asking my mom, "Chinese?" That part was amusing. They must have been really confused as to why these two very Chinese looking folks could only speak English.
Then we ended up at this Chinese market where my mom picked out tons of veggies and my dad picked out conch. I felt really bad for the fish. Some tanks were totally overcrowded and the trout were super packed in, with no room to swim. They all had their faces pressed up to the glass, moving their little fish lips and staring out into the store. Normally I don't feel bad for the animals I eat, but in this case, it really felt kind of cruel. Animals should at least live comfortably before we make a meal out of them.
