I am Irresponsible

We finally took our new bikes out for a spin. We rode along the Esplanade, across the river to Cambridge, and then back across to Boston via the Mass Ave. Bridge. SC complained that her butt hurt from her bicycle seat so we got her a new gel filled kind at the bike shop.

I did something idiotic yesterday. On our way to the Wang Theatre to see an Alvin Ailey performance I stuck our tickets into my back pocket. We were a few blocks from the theatre when I realized that our tickets were no longer there. I said to SC, "Oh no. I lost our tickets... No... really. I've lost them."

So we stood there for a few seconds, trying to figure out what to do next. Should we just go home in utter resignation? Maybe we could just buy new tickets at the box office. Then it dawned on me - check with the box office to see if they could reissue the tickets.

The last option turned out to be a brilliant one. The box office lady was very understanding and reassured me that I wasn't the first person to be so reckless with their tickets. She gave us a voucher for our tickets with a note on it that said "left tix @ home". So every single usher that we passed had the pleasure of reading that note and thinking to themselves, "Ha! what an a**hole!"

I guess that is what you get for being irresponsible :)

Fenway Park Tour

My company was sponsoring a Fenway Park Tour event for a museum conference that is in town. So of course, there was no way I would miss such an outing. DB (who happens to also be our client), JF, SC and I got the official Fenway Park tour which was fun, educational and informative. We got to go up into the media box and sit in the new club seating and on the Green Monster. You gotta love Fenway Park. So many cute little stories and quirks about/around the park such as:

  • the lone red seat in the middle of the bleachers where Ted Williams hit the longest homerun (504 feet!) and converted the Yankees fan who was seated there (and got knocked out when the ball hit him in the head)

  • the morse code memorial on the scoreboard for the Yawkeys

  • the really stringent requirements for a player having his number retired

  • and a bunch of other things that I can't think of right now!

Lobster Rolls

It was a busy Sunday. We packed and moved a bunch of SC's things into my (now "our") place. We are really going to be living together... officially! Exciting isn't it?

While we were at the waterfront we had lunch with FL at Tia's. I finally ate the lobster roll that I had been craving for the past few days. It was quite delicious and I probably could have eaten two or three more of them. Sadly enough, Tia's charges $20.99 (what the f**k?) for one freaking lobster roll. Is that the price you have to pay to have someone take apart a lobster for you, dress it up in some mayo and then slap it in a hot dog bun? Dang.

Last week, while my parents were in town, we had lobsters at my brother's house. It was SC's first time actually opening and eating a whole lobster. She decided to crack one of her claws over her lap (which I warned her was a bad idea). The lobster claw slipped out and slid across the floor under the dining room table. Being the good girlfriend that I am, I crawled under the table to rescue SC's claw. My niece exclaimed, "Look, there's hair on it!" It was really quite amusing.

Enormous Good Time

Last night SC and I decided to branch out a bit, so we went out to Cambridge for some Friday night entertainment. We had a lovely dinner of oysters and steak frites at Central Kitchen (upon JL's suggestion) and then spent the rest of the night enjoying drinks and chilling out at the Enormous Room. My co-workers JL and CM (and their lady friends) also joined us there and a good time was had by all. It was such a good time that SC and I actually stayed out until 1 AM... PLUS SC was majorly hung over this morning.

But, her hangover did not prevent us from making a trip out to the Wrentham Outlets for some bargain hunting. The trip was a success and we both left with some bags filled with shoes and clothing. Woohooo!

Happy Patriot's Day!

Wooo! What a day! I had a fantastic time at the Red Sox game with BA and MA. It was back and forth the whole time and then in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Sox were down 6-5. There were two outs, no one on base. Then Kevin Youkilis hit a single and Mark Loretta followed up with a walk-off two-run homerun over the green monster. Woohoo!!!

Then SC and I watched the marathoners go by, but of course, we didn't see any of our friends who were running. Maybe next year we will see them.

Historical Artifacts

On Thursday we got a tour of the John Adams Library at the Boston Public Library. While going through some of John Adam's books, DB discovered a copy of the US Constitution that had been forgotten about. This document was John Adam's personal copy from like 1787. John Adams even wrote on the document.

So, of course, being the good librarian that she is, DB added it to the BPL's catalog. Now, if you look up "US Constitution" in the BPL's catalog you'll find an entry for it. Pretty cool stuff.

During our visit we got to touch this very valuable historical artifact... without gloves even! Crazy, crazy stuff. DB even took our pictures for proof. See below.

Seeing Madge

This morning I got two tickets for the upcoming Madonna show. I rule! SC agreed with me that I am the best girlfriend in the world for getting the tix.

I saw Madonna during her Music tour and it was quite fantastico. Her concerts are definitely on par with a Broadway musical production. No, I take that back -- they are better.

I can't wait!

Oyster Mission

Last night, SC and I got a huge craving for oysters so we stopped into the Summer Shack. To our dismay, there was an hour and fifteen minute wait. So we left and decided to go out to the Legal Seafoods over in Kendall Square (we figured that the one at the Prudential Center would be packed).

After a short T ride, we arrived at Legal, which was having about a thirty minute wait for a table (not bad for a Saturday night). Finally we got seated and ordered a Caesar salad, a dozen oysters and some steamers. Mmmmm...

Then, our waiter returned with some bad news. They were all out of oysters. Ugh! I thought I was going to die right then since we went all the way out there just for some oysters. Our waiter said he would see if they could scrape up a few oysters for us from some place.

Then, the manager came over to tell us that they were all out of steamers! What the F??? She was very apologetic and hoped there was something else we could order that would be on the house. So instead we got mussels.

So it seemed like the meal was going to be a total bust without any of the items we orginially ordered, when the manager told us that they had contacted another location and were having more oysters driven over just for us. And, that she would discount those oyster. Woot woot!

I was starting to wonder if the restaurant had mistaken us for some important people. Ha!

When our oysters arrived, they were the most glorious things. Twelve glistening oysters on a half shell, just waiting to be devoured. Yum.

We totally got hooked up with the bill - only $32 for a dozen oysters, a Caesar salad, a bucket of mussels, two glasses of white wine, and two Cappuccions at Legal Seafoods. We ended up getting the mussels and Cappucinos for free! Damn, what a deal.

Peel-and-Eat

We pick up our bicicletas this morning. Woot woot!

Too bad it is cloudy and cold and yucky out.

I could really go for a place that has all-you-can-eat peel-and-eat shrimp. Anyone know of a place in Boston?

Wayback Machine

I was playing around with the Wayback Machine and came across my old website from 2001.

This is very amusing and I guarantee you will get a laugh or two out of it.

Life is All About Timing

I'm feeling kind of blah today. I'm coming down with a cold and that does not make me happy. I was having trouble focusing at work today so I left early and went home to take a nap.

Now I am hungry and feel a little shakey. I hope SC gets home soon so she can make me something to eat.

This afternoon some scaffolding collapsed over at Emerson, killing three people. One person was crushed in their car on Boylston Street. I guess life is all about timing. SC just happened to walk by there this morning to have copies made for her reading this evening. It's kind of scary that she was there just hours earlier.

Spring Forward

Twister is not as easy of a game to play when you are in your late twenties and subsequently out of shape and inflexible.

I am not a fan of losing an hour of sleep. At least it will be sunny now when we leave work in the evening.

Friday night, SC and I attended the family dance at HC's school. It was fun watching all the kids have a good time on the dance floor. You definitely had to watch where you were going, otherwise you might have gotten run over by a wheelchair or a walker, or gotten smacked in the face with a swinging arm. I tried dancing with HC and her friends, but they looked at me like I was some big wierdo.

Last night we went to this party with JN that turned out to be a big bust. It was held in a loft shared by a bunch of artists very far away from any sort of public transportation. The bathroom was scary, the music was too loud and the place was smokey. It also didn't help that I had a huge headache. Plus, this rather wasted guy kept insisting on talking to me. Ugh. Finally, Jenny offered to give us a ride to Central Square and me and SC were able to take a bus home. Hurrah!

I am such a party animal.
